Aloha Everyone,

Our hearts are broken to hear about the aftereffects of the recent fire tragedy. Our deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones and those who have been displaced.

With many mixed feelings, Rinzai Zen Mission will be moving forward with our obon event this coming Saturday the 19th, despite the tragedy of the past few days. Obon is an annual Buddhist event for commemorating one's ancestors, whose spirits are believed to temporarily return to this world in order to visit their relatives during obon.

Our friends at Lahaina Jodo Mission, Lahaina Hongwanji Mission, and Lahaina Shingon Mission lost everything in the fire. Monetary donations made to Rinzai Zen Mission during this obon will be distributed among our temple and these Lahaina missions. You may donate in person at the obon on Saturday the 19th or mail to:
Rinzai Zen Mission,
PO Box 791586,
Paia, HI 96779.
We humbly ask for your kokua.

Reverend Seiya Chisaka and three other ministers from Japan will be here for our Obon. They will be providing a prayer service for our members who have recently passed and will be offering prayers for those lost in the fire. Service is at 6:00 p.m., with dancing beginning at 7:00.

Thank you for your consideration.
In Gassho,
Alan Nago
President, Board of Directors
