December 2021 Rinzai Maui Zen Mission Newsletter

It is with a very heavy heart that I need to inform you of the passing of Reverend Ryozo Yamaguchi. Reverend passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Wednesday, December 29th.

Reverend suffered a setback in his recovery from a brain aneurysm. He underwent another surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain at Maui Memorial Medical Center and was then sent to Hale Makua for physical and occupational therapies. Unfortunately, Reverend did not respond well to treatment and after 3 weeks, he developed a fever and was taken back to the hospital for additional testing. After much deliberation by his family and doctors, he was brought home to the Temple for hospice and comfort care.

Reverend’s services are pending. Reverend Seiya Chisaka will be arriving from Japan to assist with the services. I will update everyone as soon as plans become available.

May Reverend Ryozo Yamaguchi rest in peace as we send our deepest condolences to his family.
